What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers which is saved by a website to your computer or mobile device and is used to record specific pieces of information. Cookies are created when you use your browser to visit a website that uses cookies to keep track of your movements within the site, help you resume where you left off, remember your registered login, theme selection, preferences, and other customisation functions.

For example, if you add items to a quote cart, a cookie allows the website to remember what items you’re buying, or if you log in to a website, a cookie may recognise you later on so that you don’t have to put in your password again.

Please be aware that restricting cookies may have an impact on the functionality of our websites.

Different types of cookies

Some cookies, known as “session cookies”, are stored only for the duration of your visit to a particular website. “Persistent cookies” are different. They can be stored in the cookie file of your browser for longer periods of time – sometimes until you clear your browser’s cache manually, depending on the lifetime of the specific cookie.

Furthermore, throughout our website we may link to other websites which are owned and operated by third parties. These third parties may also use cookies in accordance with their own separate policies (which should be consulted as appropriate by the user).

A third-party cookie is one that is associated with a different domain or website than the one that you visit. For example, on this site, we use third-party cookies built by Google to enable website analytics, but as our site is not on the Google domain, this makes their cookies “third-party” cookies. For more information about the cookies we use please see the section below.

How do we use cookies?

We use cookies to improve the way our websites work. We also use third-party cookies set by Google Analytics to review our site functionality. Our websites use cookies from HubSpot to aid tracking and analytics functionality. We have set out the cookies that we use and how we classify them below.

We will ask for your permission to place cookies or other similar technologies on your device, except where they are essential for us to provide you with a service that you have requested, these cookies are known as “strictly necessary cookies” and can only be changed in your browser settings. Please note that rejecting all non-essential web service cookies may affect your browsing experience and certain functions within the website may not work.

When you visit our website for the first time, a cookie banner will appear and when prompted by the cookie banner you must make a selection in order to determine the additional cookies that are set on the website:

  • ‘Accept’ – analytics and marketing cookies are set.
  • ‘Cookie settings’ – you will be able to actively set the cookie settings and choose what cookies you want to permit.

However, you can change your cookie preferences on our website at any time by finding “Cookie Settings” within the green footer at the bottom of our website pages. It may be necessary to refresh the page for the updated settings to take effect.

You can read more detail about these cookies below:
