There are 11 water and sewerage companies in the UK and these are Anglian, Welsh Water, Hafren Dyfrdwy, Northumbrian Water, Severn Trent Water, South West Water, Southern Water, Thames Water, Unitied Utilities, Wessex Water and Yorkshire Water. In addition, there is Scottish and NI water, which are government agencies, and a dozen or so water-only companies.
As with the other utilities, SCADA-based telemetry systems are a vital part of the operational technology system and have 4 main components. Sensors in remote locations where the plant and equipment are situated, an RTU (remote terminal unit) or PLC (programable logic controller) for onward transmission of SCADA data, a transmission medium such as copper, fibre, radio or satellite and finally a central software application to manage the system.
